All New Features in Android 16 QPR 1 Based Custom ROMs

Google took ages to release the Android 16 QPR 1 source code [actually, they had released it three months back but had kept in private until a week back]. As a result of which, many custom ROMs that strictly follow the AOSP branch, such as LineageOS, had no choice but to stick with the QPR0 source code. This is the reason why they were unable to bring about some of the most hyped features, including the likes of Material 3 Expressive Design.

But now that the source code is public, they can incorporate the new goodies into their ROM. This is something that Evolution X has just done and has already started rolling out the ROM with those features to a bunch of eligible devices [at the time of writing, it is still in the beta stage]. While LineageOS and GrapheneOS haven’t yet done so, but sooner than later, they too will roll it out as they have already started working on it. This then brings us to the most important question-

What are the New Features in Android 16 QPR 1 Based Custom ROMs

Here are all the new features that I have come across in Android 16 QPR 1 based Custom ROMs:

Blur in QS tiles

Different sections of menus

New Menu Slider

New Volume Panel

New Wallpaper and Style UI

Clock Customization [Color, Size, etc]

Different Themed Icons Location

Icons Size UI Changed

New UI when Applying Wallpapers

Notifications on the Lock Screen UI Changed

Do note that some of these features were already present on the likes of Evolution X and a bunch of other ROMs. But how could that be? Let’s find out

How Come Evolution X Already Had Material 3 Expressive Design in QPR0?

That’s an excellent question. Since Google has just released the Android 16 QPR 1 source code, how can Evolution X have some of the features beforehand [such as Material UI 3 Expressive Design]? The thing is, LineageOS Source Base is Pure AOSP, whereas other ROMs like Evolution X additionally include proprietary Pixel code dumps.

So on one hand, LineageOS only uses the officially released open-source code from Google, but that isn’t the case with Evolution X as they use frameworks/UI components from Pixel system image and vendor repos as well [such as SystemUIGoogle.apk and framework-res__auto_generated_rro.apk]. Since LineageOS will never use these proprietary Pixel components, hence it was unable to bring about the features from QPR 1 source code like Material UI 3 Expressive Design.
