Don’t Buy a Chinese ColorOS Converted to OxygenOS OnePlus 15 with Locked Bootloader

Think twice before buying a Chinese ColorOS OnePlus 15 which has been converted to OxygenOS from platforms like TradingShenzhen or literally any other of your choice. There’s nothing wrong with these platforms. They have clearly written everything on their product page regarding the device status [locked/unlocked/OxygenOS/ColorOS]. Moreover, one should be glad with the fact that they are getting two things at once- OxygenOS and a locked bootloader. This way, you’ll get the bloat-free OS and a locked ecosystem where all the banking and payment apps will work without any issue. So what’s the problem with this?

Well, if you ever wish to go back to ColorOS or even install a custom ROM/ root your OxygenOS , then you’ll have to first unlock the bootloader . And unlocking the bootloader is not possible on a Chinese OnePlus 15 that has been converted from ColorOS to OxygenOS and has a locked bootloader. But why is that the case?

If the bootloader has been locked on ColorOS to OxygenOS converted OnePlus 15, you cannot access its bootloader/Fastboot Mode , neither via the adb reboot bootloader command nor via the hardware key combination. The only way to access the Fastboot Mode is via the Deep Test APK, which, as you might be aware, can only run on ColorOS. Since we cannot access the Fastboot Mode to execute the fastboot flashing unlock command and hence unlock the bootloader, your only course of action is to take the EDL route .

And flashing an EDL firmware can be done via two routes- either go to the official service center or pay $60-$100 for the online remote paid services. Once your OnePlus 15 is back on ColorOS from OxygenOS via EDL, you can then unlock its bootloader via the Deep Test APK and flash the desired file/ root the device . So either buy a ColorOS OnePlus 15 so that you can easily unlock its bootloader as and when required via the DeepTesting APK, or get your hands on a OnePlus 15, which has been converted from ColorOS to OxygenOS but has an unlocked bootloader.
