New Features for Nothing Phone 3 on Android 16

Phone (3) introduces the AI usage dashboard in Essential Space, giving you greater transparency over large model activity. This update also includes general improvements and bug fixes, with better lock screen and AOD performance, optimised brightness behaviour, enhanced camera stability, improved Bluetooth stability and compatibility, stronger Wi-Fi connectivity and network stability, and overall system stability enhancements.

New Features for Nothing Phone 2/2A/2A Plus on Android 16

These devices now include the “Stretch” Camera preset, created with photographer Jordan Hemingway, which enhances photos with rich shadows and extended highlights for a more distinctive look directly from the Camera app. In addition, this update brings system-level app optimisation to improve startup speed, available under Settings > Apps > App Optimisation.

How to Download and Install Nothing OS 4 Android 16

Before starting, please take a complete device backup. Being a beta build, there might be a few bugs and issues, and it might even require a factory reset in some cases. So if that’s all well and good, then let’s get started.

There are two ways of installing this update- the easier and the recommended one is via the Beta Update Hub app. But if your device’s bootloader is unlocked, you can also flash the firmware in Fastboot Mode. We have shown both methods below; you may try out the one that is in sync with your requirements.

STEP 1: Install Pending Updates

Before starting, make sure you are on the latest available build and there’s no pending update available. For that, go to About phone > Tap on Nothing OS and download the update, if available. Your device should be on the following software version:

• Phone (3) : Metroid-V3.5-250911-2112
• Phone (2) : Pong-V3.2-250917-1451
• Phone (2a) : Pacman-V3.2-250904-1648
• Phone (2a) Plus : PacmanPro-V3.2-250904-1704

STEP 2A: Install Nothing OS 4 Android 16 via Beta Update App

If your device’s bootloader is locked, then go for this method.

1. Download the Beta Updates Hub .apk and install it to your device.
2. Then go to Settings > System > Nothing Beta Hub .
3. Now tap “ Join Beta ” to sign up.
4. After successful registration, tap “ Go to Update ” to upgrade.

NOTE: If “ Go to Update ” is not working, then manually check for the update by heading to Settings > System > System updates . Then install the update from there.

STEP 2B: Install Nothing OS 4 Android 16 on Rooted Devices

If your device has an unlocked bootloader and/or is rooted, then use this method to flash the Nothing OS 4 Android 16.

1. First off, download the firmware for your Nothing device. It is recommended that you download the full firmware instead of the incremental one.
2. Then extract the firmware. If it is in 7Z format, then select all > right-click > 7 ZIP > Extract to .
3. But if it is in the payload.bin format, then you’ll have to use the Fastboot Enhance Tool to extract it.
4. Now download the Fastboot_Flasher script . Then transfer the script to the firmware folder.
5. Now run the script. It will ask for a format data, hit Y to answer Yes.
6. It will ask if you wish to flash across both slots, reply Y because we want to make sure that both slots have the latest firmware.
7. Then it will ask you to disable Android Verified Boot, type in Y.
8. Next up, when the tool asks to flash the logical partition images such as system.img, reply Yes by typing Y.
9. The flashing can take a few minutes. Once done, it is recommended to do a format data once again by using the below command: fastboot -w
10. Finally, you may now reboot to the OS via the below command: fastboot reboot

How to Fix Join Fail on Nothing OS 4 Beta Update App

If you are unable to get yourself enrolled as a Beta Tester, then either of the two things-

• Spam the Join Beta button
• Then go to System Update and the update might already be present there.
