Enable 5GHz/6GHz Hotspot in Xperia in Unsupported Regions

In this guide, we will show you the steps to enable 5GHz/6GHz Hotspot in Xperia devices in unsupported regions. Recently, I came across a Sony Xperia 1 VII, and I noticed an interesting menu- Use only 2.4GHz. If that feature is disabled, then your device’s hotspot can easily use a 5GHz/6GHz hotspot, if available. The ‘if available’ keyword is something that caught my attention.

So I did some research and found out that the 6GHz band is only available in Japan, whereas the 5GHz band is strangely not supported there. So, if we want to enable either of the two bands, but are living in an unsupported country, then what needs to be done? Well, I came across an interesting method that will help you get this job done. So without further ado, let’s check it out.

Before starting, please take a complete device backup. Moreover, there exist two different methods through which you can get this job done. Go through both of them once and then try out the one that is in sync with your requirement. Droidwin and its members wouldn’t be held responsible in case of a thermonuclear war, your alarm doesn’t wake you up, or if anything happens to your device and data by performing the below steps.

METHOD 1: Via Termux

Benefit: It can enable both the 5GHz and 6GHz Hotspot bands. Moreover, it is universally applicable across all Xperia devices.

Drawback: Longer of the two methods.
  1. First off, root your Sony device via Magisk / KernelSU / APatch .
  2. After that, install the Termux app from the Play Store.
  3. If you are using KernelSU/APatch, then launch it, go to SuperUser, and enable Termux. Magisk users should skip this step.
  4. Next up, launch Termux, type in the below command, and hit Enter. su
  5. Magisk users will now get a SU prompt, hit Grant.EMSpilot
  6. Now, to enable 6GHz Hotspot, type the below command in Termux and hit Enter: su -c cmd wifi force-country-code enabled JP
  7. JP is the country code of Japan. So we have changed your device’s region to Japan.
  8. To enable 5GHz Hotspot, change your device’s region to TW (Taiwan), HK (Hong Kong), etc.
  9. The command for both these regions will be [execute any one]: su -c cmd wifi force-country-code enabled TW su -c cmd wifi force-country-code enabled HK
  10. We cannot use Japan [JP] for enabling 5GHz because it doesn’t support this band.
  11. Moving on, once you have enabled 5GHz, you’ll get a notification for the same.
  12. Your device’s hotspot will now connect to the 5GHz band by default.

METHOD 2: Via Module

Benefit: This is the shorter and easier of the two methods

Drawback: It can only enable the 6GHz Hotspot band, not the 5GHz. Moreover, it was kept in mind the Xperia 1 VII device, and may or may not work on others.
  1. First off, root your Sony device via Magisk / KernelSU / APatch .
  2. Now download the 6GHz Hotspot Enable Module from below. DOWNLOAD LINK [Credits: XDA Recognized Themer EMSpilot]
  3. Now flash this module via your rooting app and restart the device.
