Get Back the Old Google Phone UI: Remove Material 3 Expressive
In this guide, we will show you a couple of methods through which you can get back the old Google Phone UI. I have personally been a great fan of the Material 3 Expressive design. However, I seem to be in the minority, atleast when it comes to the Phone by Google app.

New UI on the Left | Old UI on the Right
Recently, the Silicon Valley giant rolled out this UI change to its phone app and is being bashed left, right, and center. One common complaint that I have seen across all the reports is the large user interface and icons that seem to have engulfed the entire app.

Moreover, earlier, we had Favorites and Voicemail at the bottom, which have now been removed and shifted to the top horizontal scrollable menus and are proving quite difficult to access. On some phones like Pixel, the Phone app is a system app, so carrying out this tweak will be a bit different in comparison with devices like Poco, which treats this app as a normal user app. So we have listed the steps for both these types of scenarios; you may try out the one that is in sync with your requirements.

When Phone App is a System App
- Head over to Settings > Apps > All Apps > Phone.
- After that, tap on the overflow icon at the top right.
- Now select Uninstall Updates > OK in the prompt.
- Then launch the Play Store and search Phone by Google.
- Then tap on the overflow icon and uncheck Auto Update.
When Phone App is a User App
- First off, uninstall the Phone app from your device.
- Next up, head over to a trusted third-party APK site.
- Now download an older version of the Google Phone app.
- If you have a newer phone, then use arm64-v8a no-dpi.
- For older phones [usually 2019 or before], get the arm-v7a nodpi.
- Finally, install the APK, and your task stands complete.
