How to Disable Back Gesture Left or Right on Android via ADB
Most of the custom ROMs that I flash come with the edge long swipe gesture, wherein you can assign a task to it. For instance, you can open the last launched app, recent apps, take a screenshot, and carry out a slew of other tasks just by long swiping from the edges of your screen. However, the biggest issue with using this gesture is the fact that it tends to conflict with the back gesture. While you do have the option to ditch gesture navigation and switch over to three-button navigation, that’s not in sync with many users’ requirements.
So how can we use the edge long swipe gesture along with the gesture navigation? Well, you can simply disable the left or right back gesture and then use the desired gesture from the side where the back gesture has been disabled. Just don’t end up disabling the back gesture across both sides, as you wouldn’t be able to use the back action then. So on that note, let’s show you the steps to get this job done via ADB Commands, without root!
How to Disable Back Gesture [Left or Right] on Android via ADB

- Download and extract Android SDK Platform Tools on your PC.
- Then enable USB Debugging and connect your device to the PC.
- Now open Command Prompt inside platform-tools and type in: To disable the left back gesture: adb shell settings put secure back_gesture_inset_scale_left 0 To disable the right back gesture: adb shell settings put secure back_gesture_inset_scale_right 0
- If the above commands don’t work, then replace 0 with -1, i.e. To disable the left back gesture: adb shell settings put secure back_gesture_inset_scale_left -1 To disable the right back gesture: adb shell settings put secure back_gesture_inset_scale_right -1
That’s it. These were the steps to disable the back gesture on your Android device using ADB Commands. Let’s now make you aware of the steps to reverse this process, aka, bring back the gestures. Follow along.
