How to Enable 5G & Global RF Bands on Xperia (5G/LTE/CA)
In this guide, we will show you the steps to enable 5G/LTE/CA and Global RF bands on your Sony Xperia device. In order to get this job done, we will first unlock the bootloader and root your device. However, do note that both of these tweaks are temporarily required. Once you are done with the task, you can remove the root and relock the device’s bootloader as well [though both of them are completely optional]. So on that note, let’s get started.
How to Enable 5G & Global RF Bands on Xperia (5G/LTE/CA)

Before starting, please take a complete device backup. Droidwin and its members wouldn’t be held responsible in case of a thermonuclear war, your alarm doesn’t wake you up, or if anything happens to your device and data by performing the below steps. NOTE: While the developer was able to successfully relock the bootloader after enabling 5G, however, I would personally not do so, as it might prove to be a risky bet. This is because even if one custom binary file is left behind and you end up locking the bootloader, then your device might end up in a bricked state. But I have still given the steps in case anyone wants to take this approach.
- To begin with, get the required ‘updated’ files from below: • band_set_01.xml • plmn_mcc_supported_01.xml • policies.xml
- After that, download and extract the Android SDK Platform Tools on your PC.
- Then, enable USB Debugging and connect your device to the PC via USB cable.
- Now unlock the bootloader and root your Sony Xperia device .
- If you are using APatch or KernelSU, go to SuperUser and enable the toggle next to Shell. Magisk users should skip this step.
- Then open Command Prompt inside platform tools and type in the below command: su
- Magisk users will now get a SuperUser prompt, hit Grant. KernelSU and APatch users wouldn’t get any prompt as they have already given the permission in the above step.
- Now enable the Qualcomm diagnostic mode using the below command: setprop sys.usb.config diag,serial_cdev,rmnet,adb
- Once the Qualcomm port is active, open EFS Explorer [which is a part of QPST Tool].
- Then go to the policyman folder and replace the default Sony band_set.xml with your updated version.
- Configure the necessary 5G NR frequencies for your region (SA/NSA).
- That’s it. Our task is now complete. You may now proceed ahead, remove root, and relock the bootloader [optional], as shown below:
- Copy the stock init_boot.img file [that you had used earlier to root] from the stock firmware and paste it in the platform-tools folder.
- Then boot your device to the FastbootD Mode via the below command fastboot reboot fastboot
- Now flash the stock init_boot.img via the below command: fastboot flash init_boot init_boot.img
- You may now relock the bootloader using the below command [make sure you have read the NOTE above]. fastboot flashing lock OR fastboot oem lock
