How to Enable Material 3 Expressive Design in Chrome

Looking to enable the new Material 3 Expressive Design theme in the Chrome browser? Well, then look no further, as this guide is here to help you out. While the Silicon Valley giant has already rolled out this feature in the stable build of the browser around the first of September, however, even after 12-13 days later, many users are still left to get a taste of the same. How to Enable Material 3 Expressive Design in Chrome

  1. First off, launch Chrome and head over to the location below: chrome://flags
  2. Then search for the following flag: Android Settings Containment //If it’s missing, then see note below
  3. Now change its status from Default to Enabled and hit Relaunch.
  4. The browser will now restart with the new theme being implemented. Left: Old Theme | Right: Material 3 Expressive Theme
NOTE: If the Android Settings Containment flag is missing from your browser, then you'll have to switch to the Chrome Beta browser.

  • JB 5 months ago Reply This doesn’t work for me, for whatever it’s worth. Info: Chrome 140.0.7339.51 Android 13; moto g stylus 5G (2022) Build/T2SDS33.75-38-1-3-30 The flag setting is there. No issues changing it to enable, etc, but it doesn’t seem to do anything. Still get the old look with Material style. Thoughts? JB
