How to Enable Vulkan on Samsung Galaxy Devices [4 Methods]
In this guide, we will show you various methods to enable Vulkan on Samsung Galaxy devices. Vulkan gives direct access to GPUs to create high-performance, real-time applications. Moreover, it also reduces CPU overhead, allows for better work distribution across multiple CPU cores, and provides access to modern hardware features.
Samsung introduced Vulkan back in 2016, and some of its flagship devices support it as well, but they are still using OpenGL. So what’s the issue with it? Well, OpenGL’s driver handles many tasks, leading to higher CPU overhead and potentially slower performance. Moreover, it also lacks direct access to GPU memory, thereby making memory utilization difficult to manage.

Its only benefit is that it’s easier to learn and use for simple applications. So if you are using an application that does not require cutting-edge performance or are using older hardware with limited Vulkan support, then OpenGL might come in handy. However, even to this day, many Samsung devices are still using the less powerful OpenGL, even though it is capable of running Vulkan.
As a result of this, when a user runs a graphics-intensive game on their device or carries out a graphics-intensive task, they wouldn’t get the best performance out of it. But guess what? You can easily enable Vulkan on your Samsung Galaxy device and ditch the less-powerful OpenGL. And in this guide, we will show you three different methods through which you can get this job done. So without further ado, let’s get started.

How to Enable Vulkan on Samsung Galaxy Devices

We have listed here four different methods to adopt Vulkan. Go through each of them first and then try out the one that is in sync with your requirement. METHOD 1: Via Script
The script will restart your device. As soon as that happens, you should unlock the device straightaway. This is because some apps won’t switch to Vulkan if you don’t unlock your device immediately after the reboot. Moreover, it’s normal for the phone to be warm during the first boot.
However, this tweak will not survive a reboot [we are not talking about the reboot that happens when the script is running, this reboot is after the script has run its course, and when you do a manual reboot. If you do a restart, then the device will go back to OpenGL [unless you’re using the Root method].
- Download and extract the Android SDK Platform Tools on your PC.
- Then, download the Vulkan script and transfer it to platform-tools.
- Enable USB Debugging and connect your device to the PC via USB.
- Run the vulkan.bat file and proceed with the on-screen instructions.
METHOD 2: Without PC [Via Shizuku]
- Download and install the aShell app on your device.
- Then, download, install, and set up the Shizuku app .
- Now launch aShell and execute the below commands adb shell setprop debug.hwui.renderer skiavk adb shell am crash com.android.systemui adb shell am force-stop com.android.settings adb shell am force-stop com.sec.android.app.launcher adb shell am force-stop com.samsung.android.app.aodservice
METHOD 3: Using PC [ADB Commands]
- Download and extract the Android SDK Platform Tools on your PC.
- Enable USB Debugging and connect your device to the PC via USB.
- Now open Command Prompt inside platform-tools folder and type: adb shell setprop debug.hwui.renderer skiavk adb shell am crash com.android.systemui adb shell am force-stop com.android.settings adb shell am force-stop com.sec.android.app.launcher adb shell am force-stop com.samsung.android.app.aodservice
METHOD 4: Via Root
- To begin with, root the device via Magisk / KernelSU / APatch .
- Then, download the Vulkan module from here .
- Now, flash it via your rooting app and then restart the device.
How to Check if Vulkan is Enabled on My Device?
Now that you have carried out the steps to enable Vulkan on your Samsung device, your next obvious step will be to check if it has been enabled or not. Fret not, we have got you covered! Just refer to the below steps and get this task done. [Screenshots Credits: XDA Senior Member Leon].
- Enable Developer Options and go to GPUWatch.
- After that, enable the toggle next to GPU Watch.
- Now, verify that the Context Info widget is added.
- Open an app, such as Dialer, and see Context Info.
- Vulkan should now be written at the bottom right.
