How to Fix Corrupt Fingerprint Without Persist Backup
It is always recommended that you should atleast take a backup of a few crucial partitions of your device [if you cannot backup the entire device]. In this regard, the two most important partitions are the IMEI [which is either devinfo , efs , or fsc+fsg+modemst1+modemst2 ] and Fingerprint [persist]. As far as the backup goes, it can either be done via Fastboot [which requires root] or EDL Mode [which requires an EDL Tool but works on a locked bootloader as well].

Backup Persist via Fastboot
However, I have seen numerous instances where the persist partition gets corrupted, and users are not able to recover it because they didn’t take a backup in the first place. There’s no point in arguing why they didn’t back up the persist as the loss has already been done. Moreover, as opposed to other partitions, you cannot ask for this file from any other user having the same device+region+OS because it is unique for everyone.

Backup Persist via EDL
Moreover, I hardly doubt anyone will share that file as it has their biometric information. But even if they did, there are high chance that it will not fix the device’s fingerprint. So what else can be done? Well, one obvious approach is to take your device to the service center. But you already know about this, and that isn’t the reason why you are here. So what next? Well, you can fix the corrupt fingerprint even without the persist partition’s backup. Without any further ado, let’s show you how this could be carried out.

How to Fix Corrupt Fingerprint Without Persist Backup

Before you proceed to try out this fix, let me tell you that its success rate is not high. Moreover, up until this point, it has only been confirmed to be working on a bunch of OnePlus Nord series devices. So proceed with caution and at your own risk. Only try this tweak if you have exhausted all your other options, and you don’t wish to head over to the service center. Droidwin and its members wouldn’t be held responsible in case of a thermonuclear war, your alarm doesn’t wake you up, or if anything happens to your device and data by performing the below steps.
- First off, we need to calibrate the fingerprint. For that, you will need a calibrator or at least yellow-striped rubber/blue-striped rubber.
- So you can either use the Relife RL-071B with all the rubbers you need or get a stripped one. [See the user’s feedback in FAQ 2 as well]. Credits: Sunshine
- Now open the dialer and type *#899#. Go to After-Sale Devices Calibration. It will ask for a code. Type 6776 and hit OK.
- You need to skip all other calibrations until the fingerprint. You can simply go back (previous button or gesture) and hit Pass.
- On fingerprint calibration, press Start and do what it says: place the skin color when it asks for yellow [which is placed at the top in the Relife RL-071B image added above], place black when it asks for black [the bottom one], and place blue [the right-hand side] when it asks for yellow-striped.
- That stripped one might not work on the first try. You need to have striped in this way to screen- |||||.
- You might get the error (Relative Illuminance Abnormal), but you can simply add some more pressure. After a few tries, it should work.
- After the calibration is done, you’ll get the Calibrate message on your screen. When that happens, reboot your device.
- You can then easily add the fingerprint from the Settings menu as you normally do.
If the calibration is not working, you can first flash the persist file and then retry calibration. Here’s how the flashing can be carried out.
- To begin with, unlock the bootloader on your device.
- Then get the persist.img file from stock or EDL ROM . This is not the backup persist; it’s just the one from the firmware.
- Now transfer the file inside the platform-tools folder.
- After that, open Command Prompt there and type in adb reboot bootloader
- Then flash the persist file using the below command: fastboot flash persist persist.img
- Next up, reboot to the OS using the below command: fastboot reboot
- Once done, retry the calibration and see if it works.
Here’s what one of the users had to say [who, by the way, managed to successfully fix this issue]: Okay, so I actually received the calibrator today, and it worked! btw i ordered the rl-071A wich is enough, and also the stripped one i succeded with only one rubber in the actual square, because otherwhise it would give me an error telling me too much pressure, u may get an error telling u that u are not putting enough pressure, i just added some with my finger, but very little force, good luck to everyone who tries .

I thought it wouldn’t work, but it actually did. When the calibration asked for yellow, I used the human-skin-like material with square and smooth sides. I used the smooth side and applied a gentle push. For black, I again used the smooth side of the black material with a gentle push. For the yellow stripe, I used the human-skin-like material with stripe and smooth sides. I used the stripe side, kept it vertical, and applied a gentle push. That’s it.
