How to Flash Evolution X ROM on Sony Xperia 1 VI (PDX245)

While the devices from Sony are no longer near their older self, they are still performing decently in some regions, such as Japan, UK, Germany, and select Asian markets. If we shift our attention towards custom development, then it’s a sad state of affairs, as it hardly gets blessed with any custom recovery or ROMs. This is where a GSI ROM comes into the frame.

As is evident by its name, a Generic System Image can be easily installed on any Project Treble device. While the performance might not be as great as a custom ROM, as the latter is strictly made for a particular device, whereas GSI is a “generic” image, still, it will give you all the goodies that a custom ROM has to offer.

Moreover, there wouldn’t be major corners cut short in the stability and performance aspect as well. While some fine-tunings are required to mould it for our device, you shouldn’t worry about that aspect as well as a developer has already taken care of that. How to Flash Evolution X ROM on Sony Xperia 1 VI

Known Issues

Not exactly an issue, but you wouldn't get the Sony Camera with this ROM.

Flashing Instructions

  1. Download and extract Android SDK Platform Tools on your PC.
  2. Then, enable USB Debugging & OEM Unlocking on your device.
  3. Next, unlock the bootloader on your device [take a backup first].
  4. Now, open Command Prompt inside platform-tools and type in: adb reboot fastboot
  5. This will boot the device to the FastbootD Mode [install drivers].
  6. Type the below command to flash the GSI ROM onto your device. fastboot flash system system.img –slot=all
  7. Next do a Factory Reset [Format Data] using the below command fastboot -w
  8. Finally, type in the below command to boot your device to the OS fastboot reboot
