How to Remove Friends from the Reels Tab
Instagram has just launched some of the most privacy-invasive features in recent times. While they are never known to be privacy-centric, the introduction of these features takes it to the next level. The first feature that I’m talking about is the introduction of the Friends tab in the Reels section. In this section, you’ll be able to see all the reels where your followers have liked or commented upon.

Likewise, they will also be able to view all the reels that they interacted with. I don’t want my followers to keep a tab on every reel on which I dropped a comment. If I really want to do so, I would simply share it with them. And if you think this is enough, wait till I introduce you to the Maps feature. As is evident from its name, you’ll be able to keep track of your followers’ location from the Messages section [at the top, just beneath the search bar].

Well, in some cases, it even ended up displaying the exact same building from where the user has posted a reel. This is the next level of creepiness, Meta! While Instagram has strictly mentioned that “Location sharing is off unless you opt in”, we have seen a few reports [ 1 , 2 ] wherein users have said that this feature was turned on by default.

How to Remove Friends from the Reels Tab
Although you cannot entirely remove the Friends tab in Reels on Instagram, but you can atleast remove yourself from this tab. In other words, none of the reels that you like or make a comment on will be shown to your followers in the Friends tab of Reels on Instagram.

- First off, launch Instagram and go to your Profile.
- Now tap on the hamburger menu at the top right.
- Go to Activity in Friends tab and select No One.
How to Turn Off Maps in Instagram
According to Instagram, “You can opt in to sharing your last active location with friends you choose”. It also goes on to say, “Location sharing is off unless you opt in.” However, a bunch of users have said that the feature was turned on for their account without any manual intervention from their end. If that’s the case with you as well, then here’s how to bid adieu to this feature for good:
Add or Manage Your Hidden Places
- Tap Messages in the top right of Feed.
- Tap Map at the top of your inbox.
- Tap Settings in the top right.
- Tap Options in the top right, then tap Hide places .
- From there, you can now Add a hidden place .
To Hide Your Location from Certain People
- Tap Messages in the top right of Feed.
- Tap Map at the top of your inbox.
- Tap Settings in the top right.
- Tap Options in the top right, then tap Hide from.
- Tap each account you’d like to hide your location from.
- Tap Done at the bottom to save your changes.
