How to Speed Up YouTube Videos and Ads up to 16X
In this video, we will show you the steps to speed up YouTube videos and ads up to 16x. By default, non-Premium users can speed up to 2 times, whereas Premium users have an additional 4x as well. But that’s just about it. Moreover, if you speed up the video, the ads wouldn’t speed up, which is along the obvious lines. So if you’re playing a video, let’s say at 2x, then an ad comes up, that ad would play at the normal speed [1x], and once the ad is over, the video will speed up back to the pre-ad value [which was 2x].
However, the tweak that I’m about to share will increase the ad’s speed to the videos as well. So if you’re watching a video at 3x, the ad will also be played at 3x! Pretty interesting, isn’t it? To test it out, we played a video at 16x [the maximum possible value attainable by this tweak], and in the middle, we were greeted with a 30-second ad . Guess what? The entire ad took less than 2 seconds to complete! So without any further ado, let’s make you aware of this trick right away.
How to Speed Up YouTube Videos and Ads up to 16X

While the maximum possible speed is 16x , what’s the minimum? Well, you should be able to theoretically slow down the video to 0.0625 (1/maximum speed or 1/16 = 0.0625). So on that note, let’s check out this trick.
- Open Chrome and head over to the Console tab. Windows or Linux: Ctrl + Shift + J Mac: CMD + Option + J
- Then type in the below value and hit Enter $(‘video’).playbackRate= x
- Make sure to replace x with the desired playback speed.
- For example, to speed up to 16x, the command will become: $(‘video’).playbackRate=16
