How to Turn off ‘What are you looking for’ and Get Old Search Back

This guide will show you a nifty workaround using which you can turn off the new ‘What are you looking for’ search bar on your Samsung device and get the old one back. It’s the age of AI, with every other OS element at its disposal. The OEM itself is leaving no stones unturned when it comes to shoving these AI features to its user base. And why wouldn’t they, after all, the users themselves are a huge fan of it [except for a few exceptions like me].

If we talk about Samsung, then it probably has the maximum number of such features, with the likes of Writing Assistance, Audio Eraser, Drawing Assist, Now Brief, Now Bar, among others being the talk of the town. While they definitely hold some beneficial value, however, the same cannot be said for the new search bar.

While it seems to have taken a page from Google Gemini, however, not everyone is a fan of this new and glowing AI-infused search box. For traditional people like us, we just want a clean and simple search bar because, after all, it too does the same job that the AI one promises to do. So if you are also not a fan of this fancy new search feature, then this guide will help you bring back the “original” search bar to your device.

I tried quite a few ways of getting this job done, for instance:

  • Turned off all the Samsung AI features. The below screenshot should give you an idea of how that could be done. For the sake of reference, we have taken Galaxy AI, but the same steps are applicable to all the other Samsung AI features as well. Credit: Redditor NefariousnessJaded87
  • Went to my Google account and turned off all its AI features as well.
  • Turned off Circle to Search
  • Turned off Suggestions.

But guess what? None of them had any impact on the new search bar! But then I stumbled upon another nifty trick that finally did the job [drumrolls please]: just change the default keyboard in settings from English USA to English Canada. That’s it, it was as simple as that!

  • Batman 7 months ago Reply Didn’t work. These phones are changing faster than I can keep up and I’m getting sick of spending 2 hours of my morning trying to figure out what they changed on my phone so I can change it back. It’s all about tricking you into letting them data rape your phone by making the features that require it constantly next to your thumb. Hate these fools.
