How to Unbrick Nothing Phone 3A/Pro via EDL Mode

In this guide, we will show you the steps to unbrick your Nothing Phone 3A/Pro by flashing the EDL firmware. The third iteration of the device from the OEM is literally a scam. Pricing it at a flagship level and having features that devices half its price boost, it was anything but obvious that it’s never going to pick up in sales. And that was indeed the case.

Fortunately, that isn’t the case with 3A and its Pro variant, as till then, the CEO was still able to make rational decisions. Moreover, the devices are somewhat active in the custom development too. However, stepping into this domain always brings in a few risks, with the device going into a bootloop or soft-bricked state being the most common ones.

In such cases, the device can still access the Fastboot Mode, and you can easily rectify the issue by flashing a Fastboot ROM. But what if the device gets hard-bricked? In such cases, the devices go into Qualcomm’s secondary boot mode, which is the Emergency Download Mode, and flashing an EDL firmware is the only way out. And in this guide, we will help you with just that. So without further ado, let’s get started.

How to Unbrick Nothing Phone 3A/Pro via EDL Mode

The below process will wipe off all the data from your device [not that you are in a position to take a backup, still, it’s worth mentioning]. Droidwin and its members wouldn’t be held responsible in case of a thermonuclear war, your alarm doesn’t wake you up, or if anything happens to your device and data by performing the below steps.

  1. Download and install the Qualcomm EDL Drivers on your PC.
  2. Then download the EDL Firmware for your device from below Phone 3A | Phone 3A Pro
  3. Now extract the firmware. If there are split files [in case of Nothing Phone 3A], then merge them via 7-ZIP or CLI [refer to the end of this guide to know how].
  4. Once the extraction is complete, verify the SHA of the ntpi file via the below command [the Command Prompt should be opened inside the same folder where all the other extracted files are present]: certUtil -hashfile “C:\path\to\your\filename.ext” SHA1
  5. The SHA1 value that you get should be the same as below [for the Nothing Phone 3A]. If that is not the case, then retry extraction; you messed up something in between. bddd1d1ac46dba87db257502840fa71007f86bb1
  6. Now launch the tool via the NothingFlashTool.exe file.
  7. Then connect your device to the PC via USB cable, and your device should be shown in the tool as COM[x], where X is a number. Likewise, it should also be shown under Device Manager as Qualcomm HS USB QDLoaders 9008.
  8. Now go to Partitions > Select Partitions To Flash and select all the partitions. Then click Start. If the device exists the EDL Mode before you can start flashing, then in that case, first, set up the tool, then click Start, and then connect the device to the PC in EDL Mode. The flashing should then start.
  9. The flashing takes around 500-600 seconds. Once done, the device should automatically boot to the OS. However, if that doesn’t happen, then unplug the device from the PC. Now press and hold Power and Volume Down for a few seconds. Your device will boot to Fastboot Mode. From there, boot to FastbootD Mode via fastboot reboot fastboot. In FastbootD, select Enter Recovery and do a Format Data. Once done, select Reboot device, and it should now boot to the OS. That’s it.

How to Merge Split ZIP Files

  • METHOD 1: Navigate to the folder in the 7-Zip file manager, right-click on the first file in the sequence, and select “Combine Files…” from the context menu.

  • METHOD 2: Extract the first file ‘filename.zip.001’ via 7ZIP, and it will automatically extract all three files into one single folder. After Extraction, you’ll get these files

  • METHOD 3: You may also use the Command Line Interface [in this case, rename the file such that there are no spaces between the name]: copy /B yourfile.z00 + yourfile.z01 + yourfile.z02 outputfile.zip
