How to Unlock Bootloader and Root Sony Xperia 1 VII

STEP 1: Check if the Bootloader can be Unlocked on your Sony Device
Not every Sony device’s bootloader can be unlocked. So, before proceeding ahead, let’s first verify if your device supports this functionality or not.
- Open the dialer and type in the below code to access the Service Menu. ##7378423##
- Now go to Service Info > Configuration > Rooting Status.
- If Bootloader Unlock allowed says Yes, then you can proceed to unlock your device.
- If it says No, or if the status is missing, then you cannot unlock your device.
- NOTE: Xperia 1 VII US and JP variants do not support bootloader unlock.
STEP 2: Enable USB Debugging and OEM Unlocking
- Head over to Settings > About Phone and tap on Build number 7 times. This will enable Developer Options.
- So go to Settings > Developer options > Enable USB Debugging and OEM unlocking.
STEP 3: Get Bootloader Unlock Code
- Head over to the Sony website , scroll down, and select ‘Sony Xperia 1 VI’ as your device.
- Now, enter your IMEI [get it via *#06#], check both the requirements, and click Submit.
- You’ll now get a code, which is for Xperia 1 VI, but will also work on the Sony Xperia 1 VII. Copy this code, as it will be required later on.
STEP 4: Boot to Fastboot Mode
- Download and extract Android SDK Platform Tools on your PC.
- Then open Command Prompt inside platform-tools and type in: adb reboot bootloader
- Now type the below command and verify if you get an ID or not: fastboot devices
- If you’re not getting any serial ID, then install Fastboot Drivers .
STEP 5: Unlock Bootloader on Sony Xperia 1 VII
- Type in the below command, replacing code with the unlock code that you got from the Sony website. fastboot oem unlock 0xput code
- Your device will undergo a reset, and the bootloader on your Sony Xperia 1 VII will be unlocked. Let’s now proceed ahead and root it.
STEP 6: Root Sony Xperia 1 VII
- Download the same firmware that is installed on your device using XperiFirm .
- Then extract it [ using UNSIN ] and get the init_boot.img file. Then transfer it to your device.
- Now download and install Magisk. Then launch it and tap Install next to Magisk.
- Then choose Select and Patch a file > choose the init_boot.img > hit Let’s Go.
- The file will be patched and placed in the Downloads folder. Transfer it to the platform-tools folder and rename it to patched_init_boot.img.
- Now open Command Prompt inside platform-tools and type the below command to boot to FastbootD Mode: adb reboot fastboot
- Then type in the following command to flash the patched init_boot. fastboot flash init_boot patched_init_boot.img
- Finally, type in the below command to boot to the OS: fastboot reboot
- Now launch Magisk, and you might get a prompt to install Additional Dependencies.
- Hit OK > then choose Direct Install > Let’s Go. Your device will now reboot to the rooted OS.
