How to Unlock Bootloader on OnePlus Firmware 863
I have previously written bootloader unlocking guides for numerous OnePlus devices, including the latest 15th series, which requires an In-Depth Test app [atleast the China version running ColorOS]. So what’s the need for this generic guide? Well, the OEM has recently rolled out a new OTA update, which bumps the firmware version to 863 [the entire version number will vary, depending on the phone that you have].

While it does iron out underlying bugs and brings in performance stability, it has also paved the way for the entrance of a highly concerning bug. The version 863 firmware for OnePlus has made the Fastboot Mode inaccessible. As a result of this, you wouldn’t be able to flash any files whatsoever. But the issue gets more dreaded for those users who have an unlocked bootloader, as let alone flash the file, they can’t even unlock the bootloader in the first place.
This is because the process requires you to execute the fastboot flashing unlock command in Fastboot Mode, which is just not possilbe at the current state of things. Fortunately, there does exist a nifty method by which you can easily mitigate this problem and carry out the unlocking process on the said firmware version. And in this guide, we will show you how to get this job done. Follow along.

Before starting, please take a complete device backup. Droidwin and its members wouldn’t be held responsible in case of a thermonuclear war, your alarm doesn’t wake you up, or if anything happens to your device and data by performing the below steps.
In order to fix this issue, we will first downgrade your OnePlus to OxygenOS 14/Android 14 via Local Install. Then, we can easily access the bootloader and unlock the bootloader on your device.
The downgrade steps given here are for EU/IN/GLO. Refer to this guide for the NA region.
- Download the Android 14 downgrade package for your device and region.
- Transfer the package to your device’s Internal Storage [not inside any folder].
- Then go to Settings > About device > Version -> Tap Build number 7 times.
- Enter the password, and with this, you have enabled the Developer Options.
- Go back to Settings > About device > Up to date > Tap on the overflow icon.
- Tap on Local Install> select the Android 14 update file > Extract > Upgrade.
- Wait for the update to complete [it will take some time]. Once done, hit Restart.
- Your device will now reboot to the downgraded Android 14 OS.
- Now that you’re on OxygenOS 14, you can easily unlock the bootloader.
- Download and extract Android SDK Platform Tools on your PC.
- Then, enable USB Debugging & OEM Unlocking on your device.
- Now open Command Prompt inside platform-tools and type in: adb reboot bootloader
- Then type the below command and verify you get the serial ID: fastboot devices
- If you don’t get any ID, then please install the Fastboot Drivers .
- Once done, type the below command to unlock the bootloader: fastboot flashing unlock
- You’ll get a prompt, use the Volume keys to highlight Unlock the Bootloader, and press the Power key to confirm.
- The device will undergo a reset, and then the bootloader will be unlocked.
- You may now proceed ahead and flash the file of your choice. That’s it.
