HyperOS 3 Bricks CN Xiaomi Phones on Global ROM [Fix]

Many Xiaomi device users in China or who have purchased the device from said country tend to flash the Global ROM. This practice has been going on for ages, but unfortunately, the OEM seems to be putting an end to this. Numerous CN Xiaomi device owners who were running Global ROM have reported that their device got bricked right after installing the latest HyperOS 3 update. As of now, their device is stuck in the stock recovery with no way out.

How is this Happening?

Well, the HyperOS 3 update has introduced a region lock check that compares the phone’s hardware to its software region. If the software [Global ROM] doesn’t match the hardware’s intended market [China], the OS fails to boot and sends the device either to the recovery mode or into a bootloop.

As of now, there exists a nifty workaround that will help you rectify this issue. Using this trick, we will be triggering an automatic rollback to the previous official version, which is HyperOS 2.2. So without any further ado, let’s check it out.   1. Keep force-restarting your device around 10–15 times in succession.
  2. This repeated reboot sequence will prompt the system into an emergency rollback mode,
  3. This will restore the earlier HyperOS build, which is compatible with your Global ROM.
  4. Once this rollback completes, your phone will then boot to HyperOS 2.2
  5. Once that happens, make sure to turn off automatic updates in Settings. If you don’t do so, then the device will again get updated to HyperOS 3, and subsequently it will be bricked once again!
