First came the news that Samsung has removed the OEM Unlocking option from One UI 8. While we were still trying to get over this news, another shocker came, this time from the Chinese OEM.
According to leaked news, Xiaomi might soon stop bootloader unlocking on MIUI 12/13/14 , and if sources are to be believed, even on HyperOS 1. And guess what, now OnePlus felt like why it should be left out of this trend! While Xiaomi’s news is still unofficial, unfortunately, that’s not the case with OnePlus, as we have the official announcement this time around.
Up until now, if you had to unlock the bootloader on your OnePlus, then you just needed to use the fastboot flashing unlock command. On the other hand, for Oppo devices, they needed to download and install an In-Depth Test APK , submit their application, and wait for the response from the OEM. If your application is accepted, then only you’ll be able to use the aforementioned command and unlock your device.
But beginning with ColorOS 16, all OnePlus devices in China will also have to follow the same route now. Developers and users with specific needs who fully understand and can afford the risks of unlocking and flashing can apply to join the in-depth testing program through official channels. The specific application rules and operation procedures are as follows: 1) Application Requirements To apply for the in-depth testing program, all of the following conditions must be met: Models with ColorOS 16.0 and above The account has no abnormalities or violations No application record within 30 days Customized mobile phones and tablets for non-government enterprises and operators Mobile phones and tablets launched in mainland China 2) Application Instructions 1. After joining the test plan, unlocking the Bootloader permissions, modifying system files, etc. may cause unpredictable impact on the device.
