Now Pixel 7A/7/7 Pro Users Faces Battery Swelling Issues
Recently, we covered how the Pixel 6A users had to go through the battery swelling fiasco. Fortunately, Google was quick to act on it and even gave the device owners some free goodies [either get a free battery replacement, $100 cash, or $150 in store credit]. Unfortunately, the issue seems to have made a comeback for the Pixel 6A successors, namely the Pixel 7, 7A, and 7 Pro, and things seem to be worse this time around.
Pixel 7A/7/7 Pro Users Faces Battery Swelling Issues
Initially, back in May, we got a couple of reports of battery swelling in the Pixel 7A. One or two reports are usually normal, but the reports kept on increasing at an alarming pace, signifying there’s definitely something wrong on a larger scale. While we were still busy investigating those concerns, similar issues surrounding the Pixel 7 and its Pro variants have now started coming up too. Here’s what one Pixel 7 Pro user had to say :
I am writing to report a serious issue with my Pixel 7 Pro, which I purchased approximately two years ago. Recently, I noticed that the side panel of the device has started to separate, as clearly shown in the attached photo. Upon closer inspection, it appears the battery may be swelling, posing a significant safety risk including the potential for explosion or fire.
Another user chimed in with a similar concern:
Same issue. Battery bulging out and screen poped out. Started initially with not much affect on battery, progressed to losing battery very abruptly and suddenly and finally now it gets switched off even on full charge.
Yet another scary issue was reported by one of the users at the Google Support Forum . Here’s what they had to say:
My pixel 7 battery started to drop quickly from 30 percent to 0 in less then a minute , so i plugged in charger and phone boot up at 27% battery , after which i have called my brother , and suddenly i feel my phone is getting fat in my hand near my ear while i was call . I suddenly cut the call and placed the phone on the ground an observed it was still swelling a little by little . Now there is a clear gap between my pixel 7 display and the body of the phone at bottom right of the device , gap is of about that u can put 2 credit card stack on each other flat..
