Open Third-Party Apps using Plus Key on OnePlus 15 [No Root]
OnePlus caused quite a furore when it decided to remove the Alert Slider with its 10th series. Getting flooded with criticism, it decided to bring back the button from the OnePlus 11. However, Oppo is hellbent on its motto that if at first you don’t “fail”, keep trying again! And so with the fifteenth iteration of its device, it decided to ditch the slider once and for all. Instead of that, you now get a plus button, which doesn’t give the same usage experience as the slider.

On the “plus” side, you can assign quite a few functionalities to this Plus button. This includes the likes of switching between ring, vibrate, and silent modes, opening the camera, toggling the flashlight, starting a voice recording, taking a screenshot, or activating DND. But it’s missing one major task- the ability to launch third-party apps. Well, you don’t have to worry about that any longer, as you can now get this job done using a nifty workaround. And in this guide, we will show you just that. So without any further ado, let’s check it out.

To carry out this task, you need Tasker and either Shizuku or Root. Since it is a non-root approach, we will be going with Shizuku along with Tasker. So with that in mind, let’s get started. [Credits for this tweak goes to XDA Member TRIST4N].
- Download and install Tasker from its official sit e [free for 7 days] | Play Store [Paid].
- Then download, install, and set up Shizkuku on your device.
- Now create a new profile, select: Event -> System -> Logcat Entry.
- Hit the magnifying glass and record pressing the Plus Key.
- Now search for “KEYLOG_OplusKeyEventUtil.”
- Add whatever task you like, such as “Launch App.”
- Make sure component is set to “KEYLOG_OplusKeyEventUtil”
- Likewise, the filter should be set to “should not notify undefined keys in restrict listen mode”.
UPDATE: There’s a Rooted Method as well
If your device is currently rooted, then there’s no point in using the above method, as it is a tad bit lengthy and complicated too. Instead, you can get this job done using a fairly easy method using a module. Here’s how.
METOD 1
- To begin with, root the device via Magisk / KernelSU / APatch .
- Then, download, install, and set up the LSPosed Framework .
- Now download and install XEdgePro. Then launch LSPosed.
- Head to the Modules section and enable the XEdgePro toggle.
- Then restart your device. Once it boots up, launch XEdgePro.
- Initially, the button will be shown as KEYCODE_UNKNOWN.
- So under Keys, tap on the Add button and follow the prompts.
- You may now assign the desired app/task to that plus button.
METHOD 2
This module even allows you to link ADB shell commands to the side key! You may either choose from the preset commands or even add your own custom ones! Here’s how: [Credits for the module: XDA Senior Member panasyuk.rodion].
- To begin with, root the device via Magisk / KernelSU / APatch .
- Now download and flash the PlusKeyManager to your device.
- Then restart your device. Now open your rooting app and go to Modules.
- Then launch the PlayKeyManager using it. You’ll see two actions: Ready commands (actions): A list of predefined commands. Custom commands: A field for entering any shell scripts.
- Tap the desired command or enter your own code and hit Save.
