What’s The Reason Behind SW Rev Check Fail ABL Fused Z > Binary Y
When you download the Samsung firmware, you’ll see values like BIT, BINARY, U, or SW REV. You can only flash a firmware whose SW REV is higher than or equal to the current SW REV of your device. When you try to flash a firmware whose SW REV is lower than the current SW REV of your phone, then you’ll be greeted with errors like the “SW Rev Check Fail ABL Fused 16 > Binary 15”.
But what are these numbers? Well, in this example, 15 is the current SW REV of the firmware, whereas 16 is the SW REV of your phone. So in this case, you’re trying to flash a firmware whose SW REV is lower than the current SW REV of your phone, which is not allowed. This value is not only in numerical terms, but it can also take the form of an alphabet.
It starts from 0 to 9 and then continues to A, B, C, D, E, F… wherein A is higher than 9 and B is higher than A. So 0<1<2<3….<8<9<A<B<C<D … While you can easily find the SW REV of the firmware from the firmware’s naming scheme or the site from where you are downloading it, but what about your device…
Well, you can find your device’s SW REV using the Settings menu, Download Mode, and Recovery Mode . If we talk about the first menu, then head over to Settings – Phone information – Software information – Build number. There, have a look at the AP value, which will be something like A528BXXS A GYA2. The fifth character from the right will be your device’s SW REV value , which in this case is A.
So I can only flash a firmware whose SW REV is atleast A or a higher alphabet. If I try to flash a lower one, then I’ll be greeted with the error message along the following lines: SW Rev Check Fail Abl Fused A > Binary [any number from 0 to 9]. So with this, you would have got a decent idea about the reason behind this isuse. Let’s now make you aware of the steps to rectify it. Follow along.
Fix SW Rev Check Fail ABL Fused 16 > Binary 15 [or any other number]
In order to rectify this issue, you’ll have to download a firmware whose SW REV is higher than or equal to the current SW REV of your device. For instnace, in my case, the SW REV is A for my device, so I’ll have to find a firmware whose SW REV is atleast A [or higher]. So in the below screenshot, I can only use the first four firmware.
For the record, I’m using the SAMFW website which has quite a nifty feature of filtering firmware. You may use the Filter Bit/SW REV frop down men uand select the version which is same or higher than your device’s SW REV. In this case, I can choose A or B. For example, let’s choose A and you’ll see that I have only got the firmware whose SW REV is same as my device, so there’s no room for any mistake whatsoever.
