Swipe on Lock Screen to open Camera is the worst iPhone Gesture

There are a few things that I just hate about this closed ecosystem, but none come close to the swipe gesture on the lock screen that tends to open the Camera. There have been numerous instances where I would be removing notifications from the lock screen via this swipe gesture and there we have it- the camera app opened in all its glory.

It would have made sense if there hadn’t been any other option to launch the camera app from the lock screen. But guess what? There are currently 10 different ways that I can recall through which you can open the camera from the lock screen! These include

  • Swipe gesture
  • Siri
  • Control Center
  • Spotlight Search
  • Widgets
  • On-screen button
  • Back Tap
  • Action Button
  • Camera Control
  • Shortcut

On top of that, the newer iPhones now have a dedicated camera button as well! Even if that wasn’t the case, then I still suppose the aforementioned approaches are more than enough to get this job done. But if Apple really didn’t want to remove this functionality, they could atleast let us customize it and allow us to open any other application or assign any other task. But hey, these are the ‘perks’ of being in a closed ecosystem, and there’s nothing you can do. Let’s just hope we get this functionality by iOS 45! Until then, fingers crossed!

-Get push notifications for Gmail in Mail.app?

-Remove our Apple Card from Safari autofill?

-Have a clipboard history?

-Have a functional digital assistant?
