Third-Party Launcher Might No Longer Work on Xiaomi
Well, it seems Android is slowly but surely stepping into the walled gardens. First, it was Xiaomi making it extremely difficult to unlock the bootloader on its HyperOS devices. Samsung decided to take it a step ahead by removing the OEM Unlocking option altogether from One UI 8 .
Now, OnePlus is closely following in its footsteps . While the fiasco surrounding this was yet to settle down, came the final nail in the coffin for sideloaded apps [again, all thanks to Google]. While we were yet to get over this news, Xiaomi once again made its presence felt, this time via a custom launcher.
Third-Party Launcher Might No Longer Work on Xiaomi

If recent reports are to be believed, you will not be able to make a switch to a third-party launcher on any of the Xiaomi devices. If you try to do so, you’ll be greeted with the following error message: “ As launcher apps from third parties may result in problems like data leaks, abnormal battery drain, and lagging. Only verified apps can be set as your default launcher “.
Do not forget that this isn’t a new development. The OEM first introduced this restriction back in 2019 with MIUI 10. However, at that point in time, it was only restricted to the Chinese ROMs. However, now, this restriction has been imposed on the Global ROM as well.

When asked in 2019, Xiaomi said it would only allow those third-party launchers to be set as default that are present in their App Store. But what now? Users are trying to set the popular Niagara Launcher as the default, which is also present in their app store , but they are still not able to do so, getting greeted by the aforementioned error. Let’s see what excuse Xiaomi comes up with this time around.
