YouTube Videos Going Dark When Playing [Fixed]
Many users are currently reporting a rather weird issue- the YouTube videos are going dark when played, while the rest of the elements remain in their original state. The problem is noticeable when playing videos in full-screen mode or landscape mode.

It’s not there in Shorts or when the videos are being played in Picture-in-Picture mode. The issue was first reported back in August, but has recently gathered pace with over 1000 users voicing the same concern. It is recommended that you try out each of the below-mentioned workarounds and then see which one spells out success. So with that in mind, let’s get started.
FIX 1: Turn offUse Device Theme
If the app’s current setting is set to Use Device Theme, then change it to either Dark or Light, as this setting is currently bugged. Here’s how it can be done:
- Go to YouTube> Account > Settings.
- Then head to General > Appearance.
- Select either the Light or Dark Theme.
FIX 2: Turn off Adaptive Brightness
Some users have said that turning off Adaptive Brightness did the job for them. So let’s give it a try and check out the result:
- Head to Settings > Display > Adaptive Brightness.
- Turn it off and check if it fixes the underlying issue.

FIX 3: Turn off Battery Saver Mode
Battery Saver Mode automatically enables Dark Mode and implements a dark theme across numerous components of the app. So try turning it off from Settings > Battery and see if it works out for you.

FIX 4: Change Color Settings
Switching from Vivid to Natural Colors might also help in addressing this issue. Here’s how it can be done:
- Head over to Settings > Display > Colors.
- Then choose Natural from the list and check out the result.
That’s it. These are the four workarounds that should help you fix the issue of YouTube videos going dark when being played. As far as the official stance on this matter is concerned, the developers are aware of this issue, but they haven’t given out any ETA for the rollout of a fix.
